19 The Kingdom of Chechi

The Tang Monk and his disciples braved the wind and snow and journeyed on beneath the moon and the stars, making their way westward. It was early spring, when swallows danced and orioles sang on every hand, and all the land was green with willow and red with peach. The master and his three disciples took their pleasure in the spring scenery as they went, riding slowly onward. As they went, they suddenly heard a great shout, like the cry of ten thousand men. The Tang Monk reined in his horse and asked, "Wukong, where does that sound come from?" Wukong replied, "Master, rest here a while, and let old Sun go ahead and find out what it is."
