13 White Tiger Ridge

The Tang Monk said, "Wukong, I'm uneasy about you going in alone. Better we all go in together and look out for one another." Wukong had no choice but to escort his master into the cave. Inside the cave it was brightly lit, and two demons sat high on a platform — the Golden-Horned King and the Silver-Horned King. Seeing the Tang Monk enter, they laughed heartily. "Tang Monk meat has delivered itself to our door!" Wukong flew into a rage, drew his golden-hooped rod, and attacked. The Golden-Horned and Silver-Horned kings each took up their weapons, leaped down from the stone platform, and fought Wukong. The two demons had many magic treasures: the purple-gold red gourd, the jade pure vase, the seven-star sword, and the banana-leaf fan, each formidable. Though Wukong's powers were vast, he could not win for a time. Wukong devised a plan. He plucked a hair and transformed it into a false Wukong, while he himself hid nearby. When the two demons were unprepared, he stole the purple-gold red gourd. Wukong took the gourd, transformed into the likeness of a small demon, mixed into the cave, and shouted, "Great King, your servant reports success — Sun Wukong has been captured!" The Golden-Horned King was overjoyed and took the gourd, but it was empty. Wukong revealed his true form and laughed heartily. "Monster, you've fallen for this old monkey's trick!" He raised the gourd and drew in the Silver-Horned King. The Golden-Horned King was shocked and tried to flee. Wukong caught up, struck the Golden-Horned King to the ground with one blow. The demon revealed his true form: a white deer with golden horns. Wukong tied him up and rescued his master and brothers. The four left the Lotus Cave and continued westward. The Tang Monk said to Wukong, "Thanks to your vast powers, you saved our lives." Wukong smiled. "Master, as long as you trust this old monkey, what demon is to be feared?"
